Life on Clement Street in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond

It’s an area that is super up-and-coming with young families who want more space but don’t want to settle for great walkability. And Clement Street is their answer! It’s a hot spot for new businesses as well as tried and true shops and restaurants that have been there for decades.

Here are a few of my favorite spots:

Got Croissants?

As you head south on Arguello Street, passing California, you may notice a very long line of people waiting patiently, six feet apart from each other. What could drive the masses to do such a thing? A croissant from Arsicault Bakery of course! In 2016 this tiny bakery was named best new bakery in America by Bon Appetit magazine. But get there early!

Of course I had to confirm that was correct, so I stood in line and brought croissants to my entire office as soon as I heard. Thank goodness I was up early!

Toy Boat by Jane

That classic neighborhood ice cream shop you visited as a child just had a makeover- and it’s BETTER THAN EVER! Amanda Michael, owner of the famed Jane on Fillmore, Jane on Larkin, and Jane the Bakery, swooped in and saved this iconic Inner Richmond spot.

Now, Toy Boat by Jane boasts the best ice cream and espresso bar PLUS they have the cult favorites from Jane like the Cowboy Salad and Burrata and Prosciutto Sandwiches. Don’t worry- they still have the mechanical horse (with sanitizer nearby). Bring your coins!

Giorgio’s Pizza

Need a place to both feed AND entertain the kids? Giorgio’s is your answer.

Their pizzas are to die for, including those made on their gluten-free crust. And while you wait for your meal, children are given pizza dough to play with, so adults can enjoy their glass (or bottle) of wine in relative peace.

Good Luck Dim Sum

This is THE place for dim sum, in the dim sum capital of San Francisco.
Comedian Ali Wong, an SF native, based the dim sum restaurant in her movie “Call Me Maybe” on this Inner Richmond hot spot.

Get their early- it opens at 8am.

Note on Burma Superstar

This is perhaps the most well known restaurant in the Inner Richmond- but guess what.. I haven’t been! Crazy I know. Will definitely be ordering from Caviar from here asap.

Neck of Woods

As my four and six year old say, “After the virus” you must must must head to Neck of Woods for drinks and a live music show. Their line up is fantastic and the vibe will keep you coming back for more.
